So can anyone tell me what these three products have in common?....................................................................
If you guessed wheat you are correct. Now can anyone tell me why we pay so much for these little boxes of wheat? There is nothing else in them but wheat...Answer is same as always. Convenience! The middle one is the easiest to achieve just so you know all you need is a blender and some wheat berries. Simply do a quick chop job in the blender until you have what is known as cracked wheat and then boil it up with water and a pinch of salt.
The third box, no names here if you haven't guessed, takes a little more work. You have to grind wheat in a manual grinder or one that allows for a really course grind and then sift out the smaller stuff. You want to remove all the outer bran layer and basically have what looks like very course flour left over. I haven't really gotten the right texture for the first box yet, but if anyone else has please speak up so we can skip paying $5+ dollars a box for something I know should be easy to make from scratch. Is there something your family makes from scratch? Something that simply baffles you why people buy it premade when you can make it so easily? This is going to be a share and tell post. I have a premade confession to make.... I bought cheese balls for years. You know the ones with chopped nuts all over them for your cracker trays at party's. It never occured to me I could make them myself. One day however I was on the phone with a wonderful sister from church and she said she was making them. I asked her about it and you know it was so easy that I immediately thought of how much money I had wasted over the years buying premade ones. Just goes to show! Well here is a link for a cheeseball recipe in case your curiousity is now peaked, like mine was.
