You know....I went to a Private Christian University in California for a couple years and like anybody you do business with i had some minor issues in dealing with them, but they worked with me and we figured it out. If something came up financially they tried to help and work with me. I applied to Oregon State this summer and even though i did not take any classes I have been charged a matriculation fee of 300 which accrues 1% monthly until its paid off. I called different departments, talked with multiple people, and its eventually came to the conclusion that I will have to pay it. Ok. Then i went up to the campus today and there is another fee of 50+ dollars on my account. This is a collections fee for the matriculation fee. I was not even back in the state until late december and still have yet to take a single credit from OSU. But thats not what ticks me off about this collections fee. For one I don't understand why they get to charge a fee, because I have yet to receive anything over the phone, or by mail telling me to pay or trying to collect the money or even a warning about the collections fee up coming. And secondly The people I had spoken with told me that there would be no other fee associated with the matriculation fee other than the monthly interest. I am still waiting for my loans to come in so I can pay for school and the matriculation fee, but before I even get the money to do that they fine me again. The economy is terible, I havent taken a class, I talked with OSU staff about my situation, and the University still has the oddasscity to throw more charges on my back. This is what you get with government beaurocracy institutions. No Help, flexibility, service, and when tough times continue to get even more challenging they could care less and will just charge more to pay for their ever increasing administration, pay raises and other unnecessary crap. Im the one who would be paying thousands of dollars for them to give me a "well rounded eduacation." I am the one who would be paying for their services, you would think they would at least try to work for it and try to earn my business. Nah. It takes 2 weeks for them to even look at a note that was signed on the internet, not mailed or anything, that should be instant. This is such a small deal, but im not going to pay and support an institution like this. Why would I. There are many Universities who would appreciate my business and want me to attend. Where I would be treated like a customer and not a number at the bottom of the pile. I mean what do you think government run health care, or anything government run is like for that matter. We all have a choice, why would you ever give that up?
