The dictionary defines Morocco as: a kingdom in north-west Africa. It couldn’t be more right. Not only is Morocco a country, but also a kingdom. A kingdom of magnificence, uniqueness, and tradition. A kingdom that flaunts the pristine beauty of Casablanca, the industrialized capital Rabat, and the ancient charisma of Fez. Morocco, in its entirety, is truly a kingdom.

I recently attended a journalists' conference at the Geneva International Conference Center. It's in the north part of town which is home to the

Hi Ladies!
I read your note you left us at Restaurant "X" - just a quick comment, your dinner was on one of the coldest nights of the year when we had to close the kitchen window which is left open the other ~ 360 days a year hence your "grease" smell. This is a very rare occurrence and only when it dips in the teens.
Our distributor Ocean Beauty took back the scallops- we had three other complaints that evening on salt- that was a packaging problem from the distributor and not due to technique.
I enjoyed reading your reviews.
Owner of Restaurant "X"

This is not the first time I am at Kayasan without a map, having come one day nine years before. Since I did not have a map the first time either it is tempting to go about my visit this time in the same way, simply out of habit. Not wanting a map becomes easy, because the signage around Heinsa is adequate and well written.
Heinsa is famous to travelers in Korea for its set of 81,258 wooden printing blocks that make up the Tripitaka Koreana (a set of Buddhist scriptures.) The printing blocks date from before the times of the Mongol invasions of the peninsula several hundred years ago. Looking around Heinsa’s many brightly painted, tile-roofed buildings one can feel the weight of history, and one can marvel at the thousands of inscribed printing blocks (although one cannot take photographs.) Many of the buildings have engaging scenes from the Buddhist cannon painted on the outside of them, and even mid-week I could see a number of lay adherents and one monk involved in spiritual exercises inside the main hall.

The above photo is exactly that (although it doesn't do it justice) and the climactic moment comes with each bite into this powdered sugar-dusted, almond paste-stuffed, crisp yet flaky, mouth-watering delight.
The atmosphere is akin to that of a neighbourhood coffee shop combined with a high-end French patisserie. From the moment we walked through the front door we were greeted by goodies galore, so visually appealing that we had to stop ourselves from asking the wait-staff to box up one of each. That would have been far too indulgent - even for us.
Show cases filled with pastries, croissants, tarts, cakes, sandwiches, chocolates and Parisian macaroons tempt all the senses.
This is Seattle, the coffee capital of North America and the coffee served at Bakery Nouveau will please even the most particular latte drinker. Coffee comes in a couple of sizes and the typical cappuccino, latte, mocha and drip coffee are available. Any espresso aficionado will be pleased with the aroma, body and presentation of the espresso-based drinks.
If something a bit more savory is to your liking, the spinach croissant is delicious and perfect for a lunch or to take for dinner and add a side salad to.
Who can say no to even one Parisian Macaroon? Not us!
So, if you find yourself in Seattle, take a detour to West Seattle and be seduced by Bakery Nouveau - what a way to start the day!Hello Viv and Jill, can you believe I found myself in the midst of the 8.8 earthquake in Santiago, Chile? At the Crown Plaza on the 13th floor (what luck?). All well, appears the hotel suffered only superficial damage, although it looks worse than it is. Traveling with Grand Circle travel who have been fabulous as was the hotel. Managed to get out by bus crossing the Andes into Argentina where we stayed in Mendoza overnight followed by a flight to Buenas Aires this morning. The entire group is sleep deprived, however we caught a break after 8 days on the road and will actually enjoy a full 8 hours sleep this evening. While I don't return until the 13th, I do plan to write several articles regarding this trip, just no time to do so until I return. Look forward to an exciting article or two then. Sharon

Liver Building in Liverpool
Today it is still possible to use the ferry for a single or round-trip crossing between Liverpool and Birkenhead, but if time permits spring for the fun and interesting 50-minute loop, listen to the commentary and read all about the history as you "Ferry Cross The Mersey". Oh, and corny as it may seem, it is to be expected that you too will be humming that old and familiar tune...

It all started out so innocently. Jill was lost in the peace, tranquility and sweeping views of the African bush while sipping a beer on the balcony of our hilltop chalet. As the scene all appeared to be so idyllic, Viv decided to join her and stepped outside to scan the horizon for wildlife at the waterhole below the lodge. All was well until Viv decided to open the cellophane wrapper encompassing the piece of fudge left on her pillow the night before.
Big mistake!
At the first cellophane crinkle the cute and cheeky face of one vervet monkey appeared between the railings of the balcony. At the second crinkle that one vervet turned into about twenty and the troop proceeded to approach.
So, picture this: Viv not knowing what to do next launches the cellophane-wrapped fudge into space, and dashes for the door while leaving Jill still sitting with her feet up as the troop swarms the balcony. Jill shouts "Don't leave me out here" and sprints inside the chalet. We are both trapped inside as the monkeys line up outside the glass doors, banging with their fists, clawing at window panes, screeching, hissing and baring their fangs at us.
We had turned into the ones on display in the cage. Moral of the story: No more fudge for Viv!

The eclectic and eccentric structures that are spread out on the 20 acres of lush tropical jungle that James and his companion Plutarco Gastelum built and lavished their efforts on are once again being visited by more than just surrealist art fans. Jill opted to order ala carte and enjoyed a grilled panini with ripe juicy tomatoes, fabulous ham and flavorful mozzerella cheese. This she paired with a kir made of champagne and lavender liquor.
Viv decided on the "formula lunch menu" (two courses and a beverage) priced at E9,90 and chose a ham and cheese crepe with local hard apple cider.
Viv's menu was finished with a large cup of delectable chocolate mousse topped with a home-made strawberry marshmallow and dollop of fresh whipped cream - heaven in a cup!

Jill's Review:
For my most recent trek through four European countries, I elected to go with a pack from Osprey - now celebrating 35 years in business. I chose an active everyday pack, specifically one from Osprey's ReSource Series. Anytime I can go green, I try to do my part. Osprey helped me in this endeavor with their Revo Simple Daypack. My Revo is stamped with a "72% Recycled Content" and I like that!
The Revo, of solid construction, is tough and proved to be quite durable throughout nine weeks of daily wear and tear schlepping my way through England, Portugal, Spain and France. The pack provided ample storage for all my "have-at-the-ready" gear I carried daily whether on an organized walking tour, a tramp across the countryside or catching trains.

HSSC describes the NL2148 Carry-On as:
Stylish and sophisticated, our Carry-On Expandable Wheeled Upright puts travel luggage on its edge. With an expandable main compartment for added packing capacity, large front compartment with a padded computer sleeve to keep a 17" notebook computer safe and secure, and multiple accessory pockets to organize everything from shoes, airline tickets, water bottles, and even your i.d. And, with it's Feather-Lite Flexoshell compression molded back panel and internal foam structure, this lightweight wheeled upright is ready to move the second you are.
This 22-inch carry-on wheeled computer upright from High Sierra's Next Level collection is one of the nicest looking carry-on luggage pieces I've come across. Stylish, lightweight and tough are three of the main criteria elements I require in a carry-on and this one does a good job of fitting the bill. After 9 weeks of constant use and abuse, this carry-on came back in perfect shape, looking practically new. The one time I was required to check the bag on a flight from London's Heathrow airport (Heathrow only allows 1 item to be taken on the plane and I had my camera gear in a daypack) to Lisbon, Portugal it came off the conveyor belt without a scratch or nick. Now that's a first for any checked bag I've had.
High Sierra packed so many useful features into the lightweight NL2148 bag (weighing in at around 10 pounds) that I was surprised how much I could carry. The expandable zipper is something that I require in a carry-on these days and the one on the NL2148 opens to allow an additional 2.5". This was especially useful for bus, train and walking travel days when the weather was hot and jackets were not required. I could expand the bag and let it haul around my excess items and all the extra paper work I picked up each day.
A long zipper pocket on the front of the bag is ideal for airline and train tickets (only if you don't let the bag out of your sight), or anything small that you need to keep handy. Another small zipper pocket has an identification tag holder that keeps it out of sight. A side pocket contains a mesh water bottle holder for keeping your hands free.
In my opinion, the shoe pockets in the main internal compartment are stupid. The opening was too close to the end of the bag, making it impossible for me to insert even a small dress shoe. The only thing I was able to use them for was to stuff them with socks. Hopefully, this was just a flaw in my particular bag.
There is a large internal padded compartment for a laptop - it will hold most with a screen up to 17 inches. I found it possible to carry additional paperwork in it too. This area is separated from the main compartment by a zippered divider panel. For my needs I preferred to use the divider panel rather than to roll it up, but then I like having a bunch of different compartments to organize my belongings.
Use this luggage for a week-end or week-long getaway, or if you're like me and can pack tight and light, this bag can provide all the room and features for a couple of months on the road.

The time at any airport before or between flights can be noisy, uncomfortable, congested and blood pressure elevating. On our most recent trek to Europe, we decided to hide out in the American Airlines Admirals Club at San Francisco International Airport and boy were we glad we did. The six-hour layover between flights was a whole lot more relaxing and productive than if we had spent the time in the terminal with the masses.
This tranquil haven gave us the peace and quiet we needed to relax and regroup before our upcoming 11-hour flight to Frankfurt. We were able to spend time on the internet (wifi available as well as two free computer terminals); order a meal or snack from the menu (good looking food at a reasonable price); get a drink from the bar (didn't cost an arm and a leg); catch up on the daily news (good selection of newspapers); get lost in a glossy (a few magazines to lose yourself in); coffee, tea, juice, minature-muffins and pastries were available to help ourselves to.
If you are do not have an Admirals Club membership (cost: from $350-$500/year) it is possible to purchase a one-day pass for the day of your flight. There is a $50 fee for this service, which is a bit on the steep side (considering most food and beverage is ala carte), but sometimes getting away from the terminal for a few hours is priceless.

Viv wore Contourwear during a 9-week trip to Europe from September to November, 2009.

Provenance Vineyards founding winemaker, Tom Rinaldi (above), spent the evening introducing diners at Citrus Restaurant in Hotel Valencia Santana Row (located in San Jose, California), to his liquid masterpieces. Provenance is a winery located near the town of Rutherford in the Napa Valley and one WJ suggests should be visited on your next visit to the area. WJ were the guests of Bonnie Best, Hotel Valencia's General Manager, for this enjoyable and most entertaining evening.
Chandon Sparkling Rose was served as a cocktail in the courtyard, along with a wonderful assortment of cheese, crackers, various breads, dried and fresh fruits.

Hotel Valencia is a very modern and chic, boutique-style hotel in Silicon Valley. The 212 rooms will appeal to the comfort needs of both pleasure and business guests. Hotel Valencia is perfectly situated on Santana Row for guests to take advantage of upscale dining, shopping and entertainment, only a few feet from the hotel's front door.
The Mediterranean-style architecture of the Santana Row buildings, transport visitors to lands far away, and the best part is you didn't need to leave North America. The courtyard is perfect for enjoying a cocktail and in good weather, guests of the hotel restaurant, Citrus, are able to enjoy dining outside.
WJ found the guest room to be so comfortable and inviting that we didn't want to leave. It would be very easy to just sit back and relax, or crawl into bed and while relaxing with a glass of wine watch the 42" flat-screen TV or surf the net via free wifi that is available throughout the hotel.

We remember the fifty-six thousand lives lost in World War II at Buchenwald Nazi concentration camp, located near Weimar, Germany. We also remember the two-hundred and fifty-thousand prisoners that were incarcerated here between July 1938 and April 1945.
During a trip through Germany, WJ landed in Weimar and decided to visit Buchenwald. The memories of our visit to this site still send shivers down our spine when we think of the atrocities that took place here. U.S President Barack Obama walked the grounds of Buchenwald today with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. President Obama wanted to visit this camp in particular because his uncle, Charles Payne, was one of the U.S. soldiers who liberated the camp in April 1945.
This slab is where autopsies and experiements were carried out on prisoners by doctors Rose, Hoven and Reiter. Doctor Gerhard Rose was arrested after the war and tried at the Trials of Nuremburg. He was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Doctor Waldemar Hoven was also tried in Nuremburg and found guilty. He was sentenced to death by hanging on June 2, 1948. Doctor Hans Conrad Julius Reiter was convicted of war crimes for his experiements on prisoners at Buchenwald.
Bodies were cremated by the thousands.
OK, we admit it, we're total germaphobes! So, when we heard about the Verilux CleanWave travel sanitizing wands, we decided to get a couple and see if they would end up being our magic wands.
These cleaning wands are capable of keeping germs at bay and eliminating allergens. Regardless of whether you want to eliminate things that make you sick (a virus, germ or a dust mite egg), the UV-C light will safely and instantly kill 99, 9 per cent of invisible bacteria, viruses, germs. And, very importantly, it is not hazardous to your health.
The safety features that are built-in prevent the light from shining in your eyes or at someone else. The CleanWave wands come in a variety of sizes, from tiny pocket-sized that will fit in a purse or pocket, all the way up to giant-sized that make it more effective and time efficient for using at home.
The above photo shows the Verliux UV-C Sanitizing Pocket Wand. Ideal for travel-related uses (door knobs, remotes, bathroom taps, toilet seats, pillows, computer keyboards), restaurant tables and cutlery, movie seats, etc. It features: built-in flashlight; light-weight - 4oz; compact size - 8" open, 4.5" closed; rechargeable battery pack and AC adapter included. MSRP: US$69.95 - WJ finds the product to be useful, but the price rather high. We would be much happier paying about half this price for this product.
WJ also tested the larger Verliux CleanWave Sanitizing Travel Wand. This item is larger and has a lower price than the pocket-sized wand. It uses the same germ-killing UV-C light technology and is a size that will fit in your luggage or keep it handy for great use on road-trips. It features: safety shut-off; length measures 10"; weights .3lb; need 4-AA batteries to operate; low battery warning light; wrist strap. MSRP: US$59.95 - priced on the higher side of what we would like to pay for this product.
These products do seem to work well by eliminating the germs that keep us up at night and make us sick while out and about in the world. A bit on the spendy side for our liking, but it may be worth it to you if you're a germaphobe and are looking for that extra peace of mind while travelling.

We would rather be smelling the salty aroma of fish fresh from the sea in Marseille!
Every morning in this ancient Mediterranean city of France, a fish market is to be found at The Old Port, known as Le Vieux Port. This area is the hub of the city and the livelihood of many a local depends on what King Neptune releases to the fishermen that day. The bustling atmosphere of the port is one not to be missed by any visitor.

We would rather be spending a weekend with the gals, paddling the Lynx Lake canoe trail in Alaska!
Portages between between the lakes are up to 1/4 mile - so, making a couple of trips per boat might be necessary - depending on the weight of your canoe, gear and how much of an amazon you are.
The cabin at James Lake (reservation required) is a great place to stay for a few days. You will need to pack in all food and water, unless you intend to filter and boil water from the lake and catch fish for dinner. This cabin easily sleeps 6 on wooden platforms and there are screens on the windows and an outhouse close by. Nice little dock (we had 3 canoes) to hang out and catch some rays. Bring lots of bug dope for sitting around the fire pit and on the porch.
We rented a couple of the canoes from Tippecanoe, which were in good shape and the handles they provided made the portages easier. Watch out for tree roots!
We would rather be whitewater rafting the class 3 Big Eddy rapids with Sun Country Tours!
WJ enjoyed a thrilling all-girls rafting trip (except for our fab guide, Ross) on the Deschutes River, with Central Oregon's top rafting tour company, Sun Country Tours.
Viv had been totally put-off whitewater rafting the previous year after getting banged around and jammed under a rock on a trip on the Salmon River in Idaho. Due to the great safety reputation of Sun Country Tours and their river guides, WJ decided to get back in the boat and take the plunge.
What a blast! Ross did a fantastic job of instructing us when to dig-in and guided us through the rapids with ease.

We would rather be golfing The Links at Bodega Harbour!
If golf is your game, make sure to take time for a round at this Scottish style links course located one hours drive from San Francisco and two hours drive from Sacramento. With incredible views of the Pacific Ocean, it has to be one of the best golf course locations on the planet. On some holes you actually feel as though you're playing into the Pacific.
We would rather be enjoying the Atlantis Hotel and Casino in Reno, Nevada!
Reno is situated in Western Nevada and is home to a population of approximately 220,000. Ideally situated only 22 miles northeast of the amazingly scenic Lake Tahoe, Reno is known as "The Biggest Little City in the World".
When in Reno, WJ stays at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, making sure to reserve a room in the Concierge Tower. WJ prefers the 25th floor to be close to the Concierge Lounge (providing complimentary use of two computer terminals, continental breafast and afternoon hors d'oeuvres and take in the spectacular views of the Sierra Mountains and city.
The newly renovated rooms in the Concierge Tower are decorated with: neutral yet stylish color tones; 42" flat screen TV; choice of two Queen-size or one King bed; plush terry cloth robes and slippers; In-Room safe; refrigerator; coffee-maker; mini-bar; TV in the bathroom; specialty bath and body products; USA Today newspaper delivered to the room.
Poker players will appreciate and enjoy the new poker room, tastefully decorated and smoke-free, to try lady-luck.
The Atlantis Spa is brand new and completely amazing. WJ has enjoyed some of the services available at the spa (target massage, facial, pedicure) and salon (hair cut, color and foils) and plans another trip to fully experience this brand new facility.
Bistro Napa is one of the many dining options at the Atlantis. Great service, reasonable prices, fantastic food preparation and presentation are all part of the meal. Happy Hour runs from 4pm to 6pm daily, with appetizers and drinks 50% off - great deal! Make sure to enjoy dinner (served from 5pm) at Bistro Napa and WJ recommends trying: sugar & salt cured caramelized maple leaf duck breast with port wine sauce, crispy leeks, wild mushrooms - $8; Seared Goose Foie Gras with pomegranate port pear sauce - $14; scallops rockefeller with sautéed spinach, shaved fennel, roasted fingerling potatoes - $28.
A wonderful way to wrap up a day of fun in the sun is to find a sidewalk cafe and do what the locals do - sit outside enjoying a sundowner (refreshment) and picture perfect sunset.

Old Faithful is a cone geyser that blows each day at fairly regular intervals. Although not the largest or tallest geyser in Yellowstone, it is typically predictable 90% of the time to within 10 minutes of an eruption, with an eruption occurring approximately every 91 minutes.
Eruptions can last between 90 seconds and 5 minutes; expel 3,700 t0 8,400 gallons (14,000 to 32,000 liters) of boiling water; and reach heights of 106 to 184 feet (30-55 m).
Mammoth Hot Springs is another spectacular area of the park to explore and view the limestone terraces. This area had greatly changed in the years between WJ's visits to the park. Even a few years can show a significant change in the terraces.
Bison laze and graze near a hot spring. About 4,000 wild bison roam freely throughout Yellowstone.
West Thumb Geyser Basin is another area within Yellowstone worth exploring.
The picturesque city of Pau lies in northwest Bearn at the base of the Pyrenees, and is a great base in this region with close proximity to many villages, towns and scenic countryside. The Christian pilgrimage city of Lourdes is only 30 km (20 miles) away and easily accessed by car, bus or train from Pau.
There are many historic monuments and buildings to be explored and enjoyed. Don't miss touring the Chateau de Pau, it is where Henry IV was born in 1553.
Hikers can enjoy a 60 km (40 mile) trek along the GR 65 to the Spanish border. If you're not an outdoor enthusiast, there are many fine restaurants and plenty of shopping to please any budget and taste. For fellow winos: there are amazing wines from the Jurancon wine-growing region to keep you busy too.
On a clear day the northern Pyrenees can be viewed - only 50 km (30 miles) west - from the Boulevard des Pyrenees. If arriving by train, take the Funiculaire de Pau from the railway station to reach the Boulevard and city center.
Pay attention to what is perched upon the counter directly behind the cafe owner - Fifi loves to hang out on top of the counter next to the phone. It is much different in French cafe's than what you would expect to find in North America.85050 items in 439 feeds
